Duske thought a moment while he followed the girl's path. "Well...I'm guessing this is like a parallel world..where our counterparts exist, but we somehow retained our memories. I'm not sure though. I'm sure everyone's fine...." Duske gave Paige a small smile as reassurance. He hoped it worked. Sure, he had a lot of troubles of his own, but he didn't want Paige worrying with him. "Hm, I hope we can't afford a two bedroom apartment.." Duske smirked.
Before a comment like that was easy for him, but now it shot a pang of guilt through him as he thought of Dawne. Immediately his smirk turned into a frown and he looked at the apartments they were passing. "...There's a lot of help wanted signs, hopefully we can land a job that pays well."

The heels of her shoes clicked softly on the sidewalk as she continued forward through the busy streets, wanting to laugh at the rather crude joke but holding it back upon seeing Duske's face. She felt bad, she really did, so she would give him a rather sympathetic look, "Haha...well unless we're both employed as managers at our jobs, that probably isn't as farfetched as a thought as you might think."
She stopped at one of the stores, the dark tinted windows not allowing her to window shop very efficiently....but the "Help Wanted" sign was unmistakable. She stepped away from the store to look for a sign....only to be slightly disappointed, "Hmm...well, let's try here shall we?" She went to the door and pulled, the gesture triggering a series of bells to go off in a melodic fit, Paige peeking through cautiously, "Hello..?" She waited a few seconds, waiting for a reply that would never come before taking her first steps in. Upon closer inspection, it seemed they had stumbled across a dusty pawn shop. She motioned for Duske to follow, trying to call out once more, "Hello? We're here about the help wanted sign...?"

The place was dusty and felt stuffy. Duske looked around at the strange objects lining the walls. A Pawne shop? What was that? His parents weren't fond of used items when he was younger and he never had an interest in antiques so this was the first time Duske set foot in one.
A wrinkly old woman walked out form the back smiling as she took in the two new arrivals. "Why hello. Find anything interesting?" She asked, giving an old-lady smile. Mindlessly, she traced the desk with the cash register on it as she made her way behind it.

"Ah forgive us for the sudden intrusion, ma'am, but we see you have positions available for hire." Paige walked up slowly to the counter, her hands grasped neatly in front of her, "You see, we're new in town and are in desperate need of an income....we'll work hard, and be sure to help drive sales." She reached the counter, putting her hands carefully on,the surface, "It would surely be a great help...and of course we won't disappoint."

The old woman nodded saying, "Sally is that you?" She reached her hand out to touch Paige's face." You would like to help? Do you mind running a few errands for me to see if you both qualify? That's all I need...yes..." She brushed he hair as if trying to remember something. Duske walked up next to Paige and gave her a this-woman-looks-senile look. He looked down replying, "What kind of errands?" in his most polite voice he could muster at the moment.
The woman reached under the counter and pulled out some packages. "Would you mind organizing these papers for me?" She gave them detailed instructions of how she wanted them to be filed in an old filing cabinet. Duske was a bit wary of the task. All they had to do was organize some papers and they got the job?

"That doesn't sound ao bad...and with the two of us it'll be done much faster." She smiled at Duske before looking at the old woman again, "We'd be much obliged, ma'am. We promise to do our best."

Duske helped move the boxes to the back room so they could organize them. The woman gave a short bow as she left the two to do their work. She told them she was going out to get some groceries so if any customers came to write their name down until she came back.
Duske found this peculiar to. Leave the shop without putting an "away" sign up, and was this a shop that got customers that were willing to come back when the old lady wasn't there? He wondered if there was more to this 'pawne' shop... or maybe he was just being paranoid.
Opening a box and taking out the stack, he handed a pile to Paige. "Could she have killed anymore trees?" he said as he shuffled through the year old receipts of the items sold in the store.

Paige took the loose papers from him, looking at some of them as if she were at a complete loss, "That's not the worst of it....so many of these are faded, I can hardly make them out." She squinted her eyes at the tiny print, sighing rather irritated before her hands fell into her lap, "It looks like these receipts are from ages ago....and in the wrong box. The poor thing must be running the shop alone, by the way things look."
